BIRD's Blog: When the wind dies the Bird Fly's

This morning the winds were calm. We're now in final preparations for my distance world record attempt. When I jumped 361 feet to set a new distance record back in February I was riding on a cr 250 2 stroke and reached a peak speed of 96mph. We were able to get the bike up to 99mph in a test run but never hit the ramp at that speed. Most people thought I was crazy to attempt a jump that big on an underpowered bike. However that bike is capable of jumping over 400 feet actually. But now thanks to Wyvern Motosports I am now on a crf 450. We have already done test runs with the bike reaching speeds at over 103mph with stock gearing. Now I am working on regearing my bike and hoping to get over 105-110mph.  As long as there are no winds and my suspension works properly i should be able to get over 380ft.

The current world record was set by Robbie Maddison at 378 feet in March, 2008. We hope to get past that mark this weekend. We have a land surveyor with lazer tracking GPS that will give us super accurate measurements to the millimeter.  If all goes we will get some test runs in and push the ramp back another 45 feet on Friday or Saturday morning and go for the record

Stay tuned for more info on my upcoming jump.
