(9:03) This video is a random compilation from my twenty four years of skateboarding focusing on my now twenty one year pro career. It was compiled and edited by non other than Mr. Larry Ransom. This is not the end of anything, only the beginning. People ask me when I'll retire, the answer is: Never! I will be out here on the front lines doing what I do, being who I am, skating and rocking until they outline me in chalk; that is what professional skateboarding is all about. Twenty one years down and a lifetime to go... Young At Heart and doing it My Way... always... -- Mike V < less

(4:26) Here is a short video I made as a school project for my Participation In Government class three months into my senior year of high school in 1991. We were allowed to pick our own topic so of course I picked skateboarding. If I wasn't riding my skateboard, then I was watching a skateboard video and this eventually made me curious on how they were made and wanting to make videos myself. I had already made a video entitled, "Say Cheese", before this school project so I already had a head start. I already had filmed some skate footage of my friends so I went out and shot the couple of interviews out on the street and the interviews with my friends to complete the filming. I edited the video on two VCRs and borrowed some type of audio mixer from Radio Shack from a friend to add in the music and narration (all in one take). Total rig job. In typical school project fashion I waited until the last minute and made the video the night before. I didn't even have a fresh, blank VHS tape to turn the project in on... I submitted it at the end of one of those Vision NSA contest videos from 1986. I turned the project in on time and the next day in class my teacher made an announcement that she was going to play the video for the whole class. I was like, "oh shit!", everyone already hated me 'cause I was a skater, "now they're really gonna hate me." So, the video was played and people dug it and were kinda impressed I think because they we're reacting to the skating while it played and asked me lots of questions after. The point made in the video (is there even one?) is pretty poor but my teacher rewarded me with an A+ due to the fact that I actually made a video. All the other students just handed in crummy charts and graphs. She even played it for all her other classes. I win. Skaters in the video are: Eric Shugats, Joe Cassenti, Larry Ransom, Stan Knight, Chris Fritton, Chris Crenshaw, Mike Drinkwalter, Andy Gulkin and Salman Agah. Written on the VHS tape label: P.I.G. (1:58) Trailer for the second and yet unseen version of the skateboarding documentary, Salad Days. A film by Larry Ransom. Narrated by Mike Vallely. Hailed by some viewers as a "universal story" and "the perfect reminder to why you started skateboarding in the first place", SALAD DAYS is as real as it gets. Told through stunning visuals, insightful interviews, this film, narrated by Mike Vallely, explores friendships, growing pains and most of all the passion for skateboarding from four run-of-the-mill kids from the small town of Lockport, NY in the 1980s and early 90s. Watch Eric Shugats, Joe Cassenti, Chris Fritton and Larry Ransom tell the tales of their discovery and love of skateboarding, adversities they faced, the times they shared and how it all ended in one fateful summer in 1992. Documented and directed by Larry Ransom and produced by Mike Vallely, Salad Days is the culmination of archived photographs and video which in turn documents skateboarding in a way that has never been seen before - through the eyes of everyday skaters - not professionals or industry giants. This unique perspective makes SALAD DAYS one of the most vital and important skateboard films ever made. < less

(6:45) Xcorps Action Sports Show #31.)"THUNDERBOATS-RCSURF"-seg3- This all American Xcorps episode rolls it out fast and cool on the bays and beaches of sunny San Diego featuring 200+mph hydroplane Thunderboat racing along with a new and remote way to surf the waves- with the RC-Surfer. Xcorps host Rat Sult opens up the action on Mission Bay at the ABRA World Series of Powerboat Racing with 1700+ HP jet and piston powered H20 rocket boats charging for the finish line in San Diegos premier boat race – the fastest on the planet. The HD Xcams rolled and major limits got pushed with race boats trailing rooster tails the length of an Amtrack train all pumped by new music and video from Dangerbird Records band Silver Sun Pickups. Included are insanely fast POV speed shots from inside the cockpit of the race boats giving the viewer a real look-and sound- at what its like to ride the race edge! Rat rolls the pits and takes a look at boat motors and talks to the drivers about the thrills and challenges. Maverick Records band Story of the Year back it all up with music and scenes from their new video Take Me Back. All American! After that Xcorps host Jason Lazo introduces viewers to the unique "RC SURFER"- a remote controlled surfboard complete with surfer in the waves at Ocean Beach California. Way cool dude! Ed Dietrich from RC Surfrider.com hangs 10 from the beach with this fun new product and drops Jason some great stories. Sweet POV-water cam shots of the surfer in action. Music by Downtown Records-Eagles of Death Metal along with So Cal surf band the Screamin Seamen. (3:11) Xcorps Action Sports Show #7.)"SPEEDSKI"-seg2- You can see all the action and hear all the music in this custom episode of The X Corps called SPEEDSKI which introduces the audience to hidden sports like the Long Beach to Catalina open ocean water ski races. The show opens with XC host Jason Lazo jammin’ some of his own tunes with his guitar on the beach at Swamis in Encinitas Ca. Jason intro’s the whacked sport of open ocean high speed water skiing-The Catalina races- held once a year out of Long Beach harbor. Participants in the race sign up for a 63 mile round trip straight line tour to the island of Catalina and back pulled by high performance 1200 horse power race boats. Most racers go non-stop completing the circuit in less than 1 hour! Average speed is 70mph. We shot this segment strapped into an open door rock ‘n’ roll helicopter the Boeing MD-500 with pilot Larry Etchandy at the controls. Larry is crazy and used to shooting big Hollywood films and he gave us one wild ride resulting in some great action footage. Try flying backwards and sideways just feet in front of an open throttled race boat! Interviews with the winning skiers on board the ocean liner Queen Mary after the races. See www.catalinaskirace.com for more info. After that Jason intros a fun segment on a new way to roll with a product from Australia called The Wheelman. Eric The X Guru Ducharme hosts this segment shot at his pad in Encinitas Ca where several of the motorized units were being assembled. Eric talks to inventor Grant Taylor about the new 46cc rim drive 4 stroke foot motorcycle and gets to ride one too. Extremist and snowboard legend Shawn Farmer is on hand here as well helping with the assembly. If you can stand on a snowboard or ride a skateboard you can roll on a Wheelman says Grant. New music from Maverick band Unloco pumps it up here too. See www.wheelman.com.au for more info. After that Jason takes us to a new video from the talented Michelle Branch who sings her new tune “Goodbye to You”. More hard tunes from Unloco and see Erics Moab Utah wipeout! The show wraps with Jason laying down another tune from Swamis Beach along with a little more speed ski footage and a promise of more adrenaline laced episodes. See the action and hear the music-join the Xcorps. Additional music by One Side Zero.
